Voters in Throckley, Walbottle and Newburn have chosen a new city councillor in a by-election triggered by the resignation of Reform UK's Amy Hunter.
Hunter stepped down earlier this summer, just months after being elected in May's local elections. The party said her health, personal and work commitments had "changed abruptly".

Five candidates stood in the contest:
- Kimberley Barrass (Green)
- Martin Evison (Reform UK)
- Alexis Fernandes (Conservative)
- Stephen Kelly (Lib Dem)
- Linda Wright (Labour)
Political context
The by-election comes after a turbulent year for the city, which saw a significant collapse in Labour's vote share in May.
The Lib Dems emerged as leaders of a new minority administration at the Civic Centre, following a three-way split that left them only marginally ahead of both Reform and the Greens.
While the outcome is unlikely to shift overall control of the council, the delicate balance of power means any by-election carries considerable weight.
