England have confirmed that Alex Scott, Ethan Nwaneri, Rio Ngumoha and Josh King have left the squad following their involvement in World Cup warm-up fixtures. Head coach Thomas Tuchel included the four youngsters to bolster numbers during the team's training camp in Florida.
The Three Lions are set to travel to their base in Kansas City on Saturday ahead of their tournament opener against Croatia on Wednesday night. In preparation, England played three warm-up matches, winning 1-0 against New Zealand and 3-0 against Costa Rica, followed by a 6-0 behind-closed-doors friendly against Miami FC, with Nwaneri and Ngumoha scoring.
Tuchel explained the rationale for selecting the young players, stating: 'We will take some young players out who will train with us in the size of the squad that we need... I'm happy to have these players, especially Alex (Scott) who was on the list of 55 and obviously he didn't make the first cut but the reaction of him was outstanding.'
All four players will now rejoin their clubs for pre-season, aiming to build on their experience and potentially earn future England call-ups.
