England Call Up Arsenal Outcast Nwaneri and Three Young Stars to Pre-World Cup Camp
England Add Four Youngsters to World Cup Training Squad

England have called up four young talents to their pre-World Cup training camp squad, including Arsenal outcast Ethan Nwaneri, just 24 hours after Thomas Tuchel named his 26-man squad. The camp will be held in Florida as the Three Lions gear up for their tournament opener.

Young Stars Join the Camp

Nwaneri, who left Arsenal in January for Marseille in search of more playing time, is joined by Fulham's Josh King, Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha, and Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. Scott was on the long list of 55 players for the World Cup squad but missed the final cut. Tuchel praised his commitment, saying: 'I’m happy to have these players, especially Alex who was on the list. The reaction of him was outstanding, and the commitment and wish to be in pre-camp was not even a question for him.'

Tuchel's Squad Decisions

Tuchel's initial squad, announced on Friday, divided opinion with surprise inclusions and controversial omissions. He left out Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Harry Maguire, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, while selecting Ivan Toney, Djed Spence, and Dan Burn. Tuchel defended his choices: 'We are trying to select and build the best possible team, which is not necessarily to select and collect the 26 most talented players. Teams win championships, it is as simple as that.'

World Cup Preparation

England will play friendlies against New Zealand on June 6 in Tampa and Costa Rica on June 10 in Orlando. Their World Cup campaign begins on June 17 against Croatia, who knocked them out in the semi-finals eight years ago. Group stage matches against Ghana and Panama follow, with England expected to top the group as they aim for their first tournament glory since 1966, having lost two finals since 2021.

The training camp will allow the young players to train with the senior squad and gain experience, with Tuchel emphasizing the need for a larger squad to manage minutes and player load during the friendlies.
