A new CNN poll has delivered a crushing blow to President Donald Trump, showing his approval rating sinking to just 34% with less than 100 days until the US midterms. The network halted its regular programming to announce the results, which anchor Sara Sidner described as "tanking on just about every major issue."
Record Discontent Among Voters
According to the poll, 73% of American adults believe the president has not paid enough attention to the country's most important problems, a record high. Issues include Iran, inflation, gas, immigration, and his D.C. construction projects. Sidner noted that Trump's approval rating hasn't been this low since just after the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
Reactions on Social Media
Viewers reacted on X, with one writing: "I hope discontent with Trump will motivate people to get to the polls in November. They are going to have to overcome voter suppression and intimidation, so it's not going to be easy." Another said: "He should resign! And he thinks voters want him for a third term! He has a serious problem!" A third commented: "Still that high? I would have expected it to be on the floor after this past month."
Trump's Explosive Interview on Iran
Amid the ongoing scrutiny over his health and policies, Trump gave an expletive-filled interview on FOX News regarding an Iranian ballistic missile attack in Jordan. He said: "We're going to beat the f***ing s*** out of them. We'll be hitting them hard. They're going to get a beating." However, the CNN poll indicates that 67% of voters feel his decisions about military action in Iran have hurt the US, and 74% believe he does not have a clear plan for handling the situation.
Health Concerns and Second Term
Now in his second term at age 80, Trump has faced widespread criticism over his policies and concerns about his physical and cognitive well-being. He has been accused of falling asleep in major meetings, including at the funeral of the late Republican politician Lindsey Graham, and has been pictured with bruising and swelling on his hands.
