Polls closed at 10pm on Thursday, August 13, in the Clacton by-election, with the count taking place overnight. Results are expected from 2am on Friday morning.
Who is standing?
Nigel Farage stood in the election alongside 33 other candidates. Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party and Restore Britain did not take part.
Why was the by-election called?
The seat was previously held by Reform leader Nigel Farage, who won the constituency with an 8,405-seat majority in the 2024 general election. Mr Farage called the by-election at the start of July after coming under intense pressure over unregistered donations of cash and support.
In a video statement at the time, Mr Farage said: “I have done nothing wrong. I have not broken the law in any way at all.” He accused the media of harassment and vowed to fight a “people versus the establishment” by-election.

The Essex constituency includes the Tendring wards of Alton Park, Beaumont and Thorpe, Bockings Elm, Burrsville, Frinton, Golf Green, Hamford, Haven, Holland and Kirby, Homelands, Little Clacton and Weeley, Pier, Rush Green, St Bartholomews, St James, St Johns, St Marys, St Osyth and Point Clear, and St Pauls and Walton.
Results will be announced as they come in, with the widget and map updating once the count is declared.
