Newly released video footage of Tiger Woods' DUI arrest in Jupiter Island, Florida, on March 27 shows the golf legend making a phone call to President Donald Trump, his girlfriend Vanessa Trump's father-in-law. In the footage, Woods tells police, 'I was just talking with the President,' after ending the call with a thank you.
President Trump confirmed the conversation, stating, 'I think he's doing great, he's doing good.' Trump added that Woods tested negative for alcohol and attributed the incident to the golfer's chronic pain from back and leg ailments, saying, 'He lives a life of pain. He doesn't have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain.'
Woods was charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a urine test after police described him as 'lethargic' and showing 'signs of impairment.' He was found with two hydrocodone pills, a powerful opioid painkiller. A Florida judge later granted Woods permission to leave the US for treatment abroad, citing his 'complex clinical presentation' and the need for privacy.
On March 31, Woods broke his silence on social media, announcing he would step away from golf to seek treatment. 'I know and understand the seriousness of the situation,' he wrote. 'I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health.' The PGA Tour and CEO Brian Rolapp expressed full support for Woods' decision.
