Former Scotland Rugby Captain Stuart Hogg Arrested Again After Breaching Court Order
Former Scotland rugby international Stuart Hogg has been arrested once more, this time for allegedly violating a non-harassment order related to his ex-wife, Gillian Smith. The arrest follows Hogg's previous guilty plea in November 2024 to a single charge of domestic abuse against Smith, which spanned a five-year period.
Details of the Alleged Breach and Prior Conviction
According to reports, Hogg is accused of using a co-parenting app to discuss personal matters with his ex-wife, despite being permitted to communicate only about issues concerning their four children. This action is said to constitute a breach of the court-imposed order. In the earlier case, the court heard that Hogg had engaged in behavior including shouting, swearing, monitoring Smith's movements, and sending alarming messages.
As a result of that conviction, Hogg avoided jail time but received a community payback order with a year of supervision. He was also banned from approaching or contacting Smith for five years, issued a separate five-year non-harassment order, and fined £600 for breaching bail conditions by contacting her.
Arrest and Release Without Charge
Hogg was reportedly stopped by police at Manchester Airport last month while returning from France, where he currently plays for Montpellier. He was instructed to attend a police station in his hometown of Hawick, interviewed, and later released without charge. A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that a 33-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, 12 February 2026, in connection with a breach of a non-harassment order and released without charge.
Loss of MBE Honour
In a related development, Hogg was formally stripped of his MBE earlier this month after King Charles III ordered the honour to be 'cancelled and annulled.' This decision followed his guilty plea to the domestic abuse charge. Hogg had received the MBE in the 2024 New Year Honours list for services to rugby.
The ongoing legal issues mark a significant fall from grace for the former rugby captain, whose career achievements are now overshadowed by these serious allegations and convictions.
