Budget airline Ryanair has sparked debate with a new proposal to charge talkative passengers on early morning flights. The idea, floated on social media, has divided opinion among travelers.
Ryanair's Latest Fee Proposal
Ryanair, known for its low base fares and numerous add-on charges, has suggested a fee for passengers who talk excessively on 6am flights. The airline posted a tongue-in-cheek message on Facebook: "We'll be charging yappers on our 6am flights very soon." While seemingly absurd, some travelers welcomed the idea, hoping for a quieter journey. One user commented, "A charge we can all stand by." Another added, "If we get on board and say we don't want a scratch card, then we are left in peace."
Mixed Reactions
However, many criticized the proposal, questioning whether it would apply to cabin crew. One user asked, "Does that include the ones yapping on the PA system about scratch cards and duty free?" Another noted, "That would be your crew selling us perfumes first thing in the morning."
Real Ryanair Fees to Know
While Ryanair often jokes about fees, there are genuine charges passengers should be aware of. Failing to check in online incurs a £55/€55 fee (£30/€30 from Spain). Passengers are urged to check in via the app or website up to 60 days before departure for those with pre-booked seats, or 24 hours before for others. Check-in closes two hours before departure.
Luggage size is another common pitfall. Cabin bags must be 40x30x20cm (previously 40x25x20cm) to fit under the seat. Oversized bags incur a £60 fee. A second cabin bag up to 55x40x20cm and 10kg can be brought for an additional charge, but passengers must load it themselves.
