Marie Keane, the mother of Manchester United and Republic of Ireland legend Roy Keane, has died peacefully at Marymount University Hospital and Hospice in Cork, surrounded by her family.
A death notice on RIP.ie confirmed that Marie (née Lynch) passed away on March 27, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Maurice (Mossie) and mother of Denis, Johnson, Hilary, Roy and Pat. She was predeceased by her brother Pat, her niece Estella and her nephew Thomas.
Roy's father, Maurice 'Mossie' Keane, died in 2019 at the age of 79 after suffering a stroke. In 2022, Roy shared a photograph of himself and his mother on social media, captioning it: 'The only boss I listen to'.
During an episode of The Overlap last year, the former midfielder became emotional after showing co-stars an old photo of his parents attending a match early in his career. He was comforted by Ian Wright.
