Four people, including an 11-year-old girl, were taken to hospital after a fairground ride malfunctioned at the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park, south London, on Saturday evening. Emergency services were called to the scene at about 6.20pm.
Those injured are a man and a woman aged in their 40s, a man in his 50s, and the girl. Police said none are believed to be in a life-threatening condition and they are awaiting full hospital assessments. The ride failed but no one was trapped, according to the Met Police.
The London Ambulance Service sent multiple resources, including four ambulance crews, members of its hazardous area response team, and London's air ambulance. Paramedics treated the four at the scene and took them to major trauma centres.
Cordons are in place, and the Health and Safety Executive will be informed. Lambeth Council confirmed the funfair has been closed and additional safety inspections are being carried out on all rides at the show. A thorough investigation is under way to determine the cause of the malfunction.
Helen Hayes, Labour parliamentary candidate for Dulwich and West Norwood and shadow minister for children and early years, called for an urgent investigation, writing on X that she was shocked by the incident and thanking emergency services.
