The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed the list of energy suppliers taking part in this year's Warm Home Discount Scheme, which will provide eligible households with £150 off their electricity bill. The scheme is administered by the DWP and provides £150 credit directly to energy accounts, not a cash payment. The Warm Home Discount Scheme for winter 2026/27 is due to reopen in October.
Eligibility in Scotland
There are different ways to qualify for the energy bill help depending on where someone lives, with specific rules applying to households in Scotland. To qualify in Scotland, certain conditions must be met on August 23, 2026. People may be eligible if, on that date, their energy supplier is participating in the scheme, they or their partner receive certain means-tested benefits, and their name or their partner's name is on the electricity bill.
Some eligible households will receive the £150 discount automatically, while others will need to apply directly to their energy supplier.
Who gets the discount automatically?
According to GOV.UK guidance, people will receive the Warm Home Discount automatically if they or their partner get Pension Credit, get an extra amount of Universal Credit because they or their child has a disability or health condition, get a disability premium or pensioner premium with income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), or get a disability premium or pensioner premium and have a Support for Mortgage Interest loan.
People can also qualify automatically if they or their partner are responsible for a child aged under five who normally lives with them and they are unemployed and get Universal Credit, get income-related Employment and Support Allowance, or have a Support for Mortgage Interest loan. This is known as the core group.
Who needs to apply?
People who do not qualify automatically may still be eligible for the £150 discount but will need to apply directly to their electricity supplier. This is known as the broader group. Energy suppliers may have additional eligibility criteria and will confirm which benefits someone needs to receive to qualify.
Participating suppliers
The following suppliers have been confirmed as taking part in the Warm Home Discount Scheme for winter 2026/27: 100Green, formerly Green Energy UK or GEUK, Boost, British Gas, E, also known as E (Gas and Electricity), Ecotricity, EDF, EnergyCoop - through Octopus Energy, E.ON Next, Fuse Energy, Good Energy, Home Energy, London Power, Octopus Energy, Outfox Energy, OVO, Sainsbury's Energy, Scottish Gas - through British Gas, ScottishPower, So Energy, Square 1 Energy Ltd, TruEnergy, Tulo Energy, Utilita, and Utility Warehouse.
People whose electricity supplier stops trading may still be able to receive the discount. Ofgem will appoint a new supplier and customers should check with the replacement company to find out whether they remain eligible for the scheme.
How the discount is paid
Eligible households receive a one-off £150 discount on their electricity bill. The money is not paid directly into their bank account. It may be possible to have the discount applied to a gas bill instead where the same company supplies both gas and electricity. Customers should contact their supplier to find out if this is possible.
Households using prepayment or pay-as-you-go electricity meters can also qualify. The way they receive the £150 may be different, such as through a voucher that can be used to top up their meter, and their supplier will explain how the discount will be provided.
