Daniel Moody, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Paul Bearer, has passed away at the age of 39. The tragic news was confirmed on Monday, with the Coastal Wrestling Alliance announcing his death on Tuesday. No cause of death has been provided at this time.
A Legacy in the Ring
Moody followed in his father's footsteps, wrestling for independent promotions under the ring name DJ Pringle. He was the last surviving member of Paul Bearer's immediate family, marking a sombre end to a lineage deeply connected to professional wrestling.
Family Tragedies
The Moody family has endured profound loss over the past two decades. Paul Bearer, whose real name was William Moody and who also performed as Percy Pringle III, died in 2013 from a heart attack. His wife, Dianna, passed away in 2009 due to complications from breast cancer.
The couple's older son, Michael Moody, died in September 2014 at the age of 35, just months after he and Daniel had inducted their father into the WWE Hall of Fame. This series of tragedies has left the wrestling community mourning yet another loss.
Health Struggles and Support
Daniel Moody reportedly suffered a major health crisis last November, requiring a medical procedure. A GoFundMe page was established to help his daughter, Danielle, cover medical insurance costs. The page noted that Moody was in long-term care before an update this week confirmed his passing.
Funds raised will now be redirected towards funeral expenses, highlighting the ongoing financial and emotional challenges faced by the family.
Tributes from the Wrestling World
Steve Stasiak of Book Pro Wrestlers led the tributes, stating, "Daniel was the son of Paul Bearer - a man whose voice, presence, and character became part of wrestling history forever. And like so many second-generation names, Daniel carried that connection with him, while also being his own person in the wrestling world."
He added, "For those who met him, worked with him, or simply followed along over the years, this one hits on a different level. There’s history there. There’s family there. And there’s a bond to the business that never really leaves."
Paul Bearer's Legacy
Paul Bearer rose to fame in the 1990s as the manager of The Undertaker, becoming an iconic figure in WWE history. He was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014, with both Michael and Daniel Moody present to accept the honour on his behalf.
The Coastal Wrestling Alliance expressed their condolences, saying, "It is with a heavy heart that we share this news. Daniel Moody, DJ Pringle, known by many names both in and out of the locker room and at shows has passed away last night. We want to wish our deepest condolences to the family and we are praying for you."
As the wrestling community reflects on this loss, the deep roots and interconnected history of the industry are once again brought to the forefront, reminding fans and colleagues alike of the personal bonds that extend beyond the ring.
