Prime Minister Andy Burnham is addressing the UN General Assembly in New York for the first time since taking office over the summer. His speech comes during his first major diplomatic trip since entering Downing Street, where he has held meetings with high-profile figures.
First meeting with Trump
His address follows his first meeting with US President Donald Trump. Burnham described the meeting as 'excellent', while Trump called the British PM a 'man he could do business with' but heavily criticised the Chagos Islands deal in front of him.
Speaking to reporters afterwards, President Trump said: "I don't support it. I think it's terrible. It was a terrible deal. They [Mauritius] all of a sudden say they have ownership. It's amazing how strategic it is, and I think the Prime Minister is going to be looking at it."
Shift in position
The Labour leader, who was sitting next to him, agreed and said "yeah", marking a change in his position en-route to New York when he said he would do "everything possible" to find a resolution to the deal.
