Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens Unfazed by Milan Robbery Attempt

Olympic gymnastics legend Simone Biles and her husband, NFL star Jonathan Owens, have been enjoying their time in Milan for the Winter Olympics, despite a frightening robbery attempt targeting Owens last week. The couple was photographed walking hand-in-hand through the Italian city on Thursday, showing affection shortly after the incident.

The Brazen Robbery Attempt

Jonathan Owens revealed on social media platform X that he was nearly robbed while shopping in Milan. The NFL player posted on Sunday about a man who attempted to snatch his shopping bag in what he described as a "brazen" robbery attempt.

"Not somebody just tried to snatch my shopping bag in Milan," Owens wrote. "Force of habit I had it tied around my hand so he couldn't get it and took off running immediately…but still crazy."

Owens explained that he was prepared for such situations thanks to watching TikTok videos about similar incidents. "Honestly I know right, but it was no way he could get it off my hand," he added in a reply. "I've seen too many TikToks of that happening so I was prepared."

Winter Olympics Spectators

The couple has been in Milan to experience the Winter Olympics action, attending multiple events including figure skating and speed skating competitions. They were first spotted at the men's figure skating final on Friday, where they witnessed American gold medal favorite Ilia Malinin suffer multiple falls during his free skate routine.

On Saturday, the pair took seats at speed skating events before Biles was seen sightseeing around Milan on Sunday. Their public appearances continued despite the robbery scare, with the couple displaying affection during their Thursday outing.

Fashion and Recovery

For their post-robbery outing, Simone Biles dressed in a black turtleneck knitted jumper paired with skintight leggings and chunky white trainers, accessorizing with a black leather handbag. Jonathan Owens opted for a brown jersey tracksuit with a patterned leather weekend bag slung over his shoulder.

Concerned fans flooded Owens' social media post with replies, questioning the thief's logic in targeting an NFL player. Owens humorously responded about the would-be robber's failed attempt: "Not fast at all bro, his arms were moving faster than his legs lol. Should've seen his face once he realized I turned around and he couldn't grab it."

Biles' New Athletic Pursuits

Meanwhile, Simone Biles has been exploring new athletic interests during her break from competitive gymnastics. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist recently revealed she has begun taking horseback riding lessons near her Houston home.

"There are stables right next to my house and it's here," Biles told PEOPLE magazine. "So I was bored one day and I was like, 'What am I going to do?' And I was like, 'I'm going to start taking horseback riding lessons.' Because, why not? It's literally here."

The gymnastics champion also expressed interest in starting ice skating lessons soon. Biles is taking well-deserved time off following her outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics last year, where she won three gold medals and one silver medal.

While Biles has been non-committal about whether she'll compete in the 2028 Olympics, she continues to stay active with Pilates and her new equestrian pursuits. The couple's new Houston home provides convenient access to stables for Biles to explore her latest hobby between travels and public appearances.
