Welsh FM likens herself to strawberry daiquiri in seat warning

Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan has compared herself to a strawberry daiquiri cocktail while warning constituents she could lose her seat in the Welsh Parliament election. Baroness Morgan, the leader of Welsh Labour, posted a video on social media cautioning that there is a 'danger' of her losing to a Reform candidate.

Labour's Long Tenure at Risk

Labour has governed Wales for over two decades, but recent opinion polls indicate that Plaid Cymru and Reform have surged ahead. Some surveys even suggest that Lady Morgan herself could be ousted from her constituency. In the video, the First Minister used canned cocktails to illustrate the new voting system in Wales, where each constituency will elect six members to the Senedd.

Cocktail Metaphor for Political Rivals

Lady Morgan explained: 'In Ceredigion Penfro, we know Plaid is pretty secure; they have at least two seats, maybe even a third, so they are good. Ceredigion – Plaid is really strong. So the real battle is between Reform, the Tories, and Labour. In the latest poll… I am in. But it will not necessarily stay that way unless you come out and vote Labour.'

Holding a canned strawberry daiquiri to the camera, the First Minister said: 'That is me.' She used a mojito to represent Plaid Cymru, a blue raspberry martini for the Conservatives, an espresso martini for Reform, a pina colada for the Greens, and an Irn-Bru vodka martini for the Welsh Liberal Democrats.

'Because the real danger is that if you do not come out and do not support Labour, you are going to get another Reform person,' Lady Morgan added. 'God knows who that is, and you are going to lose somebody who really knows how the Senedd works, who has run Wales and who represents this area.'

Polling Forecasts

A recent YouGov poll for ITV Cymru Wales forecast Welsh Labour would win 12 seats, but none in Lady Morgan's Ceredigion Penfro constituency. Reform was projected to win 37 seats, while Plaid Cymru would secure 36.
