President Donald Trump took aim at Prime Minister Andy Burnham in a brutal speech, blasting the UK's lack of support for the US. During his two-day visit to Ireland, the 80-year-old addressed U.S. Embassy personnel at the Deerfield Residence in Dublin and the world press when he took a humiliating swipe at the Labour leader.
Trump's Swipe at the UK
As GB News went live in the Republic of Ireland's capital, Trump stated: "Frankly, the United Kingdom has to do the same thing, I hate to tell you. They could watch what we've done, and so could the other Europeans, and I love Europe. My mother was from Scotland, my father was from Germany, I love Europe, I have a natural inclination and I hate to see what's happening with Europe."
The US leader blasted: "I hate to see what's happening on trade, I hate to see what's happening on energy and I hate to see what's happening on immigration."
Immigration and NATO Criticism
During his speech, the US President continued: "That immigration, what you're doing to yourselves, you're just killing yourselves, but we're going to work with them, and we do work with them."
Speaking on the previous U-turns, Trump fumed: "Very disappointing in many ways, that NATO didn't want to help us with the Strait [of Hormuz] even though we don't get any oil from the Strait, we don't need it, we have a lot of oil, we have more oil than anybody, as you know. We thought it was important, and they get a lot out there, they get 50% 60% of different countries. I said 'Would you like to help us with the Strait? No, we'd rather not get involved,'" he chuckled.
Mocking Starmer
While the President blasted Burnham's approach to immigration, he also used the speech to mock former Prime Minister Keir Starmer's objections during the Iran war.
Back in March, Trump had called for a "team effort" to break Iran's blockade of the world's most critical oil chokepoint, but Britain, France, Germany and South Korea all pushed back. At the time, Trump launched sharp criticisms at Starmer, in one savage remark, he said the Prime Minister is "no Winston Churchill."
He then spoke to reporters in the Oval Office and was asked if the relationship with the UK had been damaged by Starmer's refusal to fully support the US's offensive military action against Iran. "Well, he hasn't been supportive, and I think it's a big mistake. You know, they make a lot of money on trade with the United States. I went out of my way [to make a trade deal]," Trump said earlier this year.
