A senior official and close ally of Attorney General Pam Bondi has launched an explosive attack on conservative critics, accusing them of spreading dangerous misinformation about prosecuting Democrats over January 6-related allegations.
MAGA Anger and Misunderstood Deadlines
A significant wave of frustration has erupted within the MAGA movement, fuelled by online commentators. They claim the window to bring charges against Democrats for allegedly weaponising the January 6 Capitol riot investigations is closing fast. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon has borne the brunt of this anger, with critics even attacking her for posting holiday knitting pictures while they fear members of the House Select Committee and prosecutors may avoid accountability.
Dhillon has hit back forcefully, stating this fundamental misunderstanding of the law is being driven by profit. "'Conservative' influencers, if you think you are 'keeping the pressure on' or 'winning' by spreading bullsh** attacks on [President Donald Trump's] hand-picked cabinet, you are not," she posted on X. "You are earning money to spread misinformation. You are ho*s. Learn an honest profession!"
The Legal Reality of Statute of Limitations
Contrary to the claims circulating online, Dhillon asserts there is still ample time for potential counter-prosecutions. She explains that the statute of limitations to pursue cases against members of the January 6 select committee potentially does not expire until mid-2026. Furthermore, the Department of Justice (DOJ) would have until 2027 to prosecute former Special Counsel Jack Smith, with other possible crimes carrying even longer deadlines that would extend into the next presidential administration.
Despite this timeline, legal experts note the case for criminally charging Democrats for their roles in investigating and prosecuting January 6 defendants appears exceptionally weak. Legal protections largely shield legislative actions and prosecutorial decisions from criminal liability.
A Heated Defence and Mounting Pressure
Dhillon, who also defended the DOJ's handling of the claims and praised Bondi's leadership, continued her rebuttal on The Charlie Kirk Show on Tuesday. "I wish people would just get a life… and try to be honest instead of trying to make money off the desperation of a less-informed populace," she stated.
Nevertheless, the pressure on both her and Attorney General Bondi continues to intensify from their right flank. One X user, Dale Dion, demanded: "Charge the dems for their J6 insurrection before it’s too late and you really anger us even more!!?" Another critique pointed to the over 1,500 people pardoned by Donald Trump shortly after he took office for crimes related to the 2021 Capitol riot, contrasting it with the current situation.
Dhillon's final message to her detractors was blunt: "Stop posting clickbait bs! You are being used!"
