NBA Fans Cry Foul as Thunder Accused of Rigging Playoffs
Thunder Accused of Rigging Playoffs After Controversial Call

The Oklahoma City Thunder are now just one victory away from securing their second consecutive NBA Finals appearance after defeating the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night. However, a significant number of basketball enthusiasts are convinced that the postseason has been manipulated to favor the Thunder.

Game 5 Victory Marred by Controversy

In a pivotal Game 5 held at the Paycom Center, Oklahoma City surged to a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference Finals, propelled by an outstanding performance from MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who contributed 37 points in a 127-114 triumph for the home side.

Despite the win, numerous NBA followers believe the Thunder benefited from a highly contentious officiating decision during the match. Additionally, the reigning champions faced accusations of 'flopping' on two separate occasions.

Missed Goaltend Call Sparks Outrage

During the fourth quarter of Tuesday's contest, Luke Kornet attempted a layup, only for Cason Wallace to deflect the ball as it made contact with the rim on its descent. Wallace's intervention appeared to violate the 'goaltend' rule, which prohibits defenders from illegally interfering with a shot. However, much to the frustration of social media users, the referees did not penalize Oklahoma City by awarding points to San Antonio.

One fan shared a clip of the incident on X and remarked: 'The refs cheating for the Thunder'. Another user fumed: 'Game is completely rigged.' A third sarcastically questioned: 'so Cason Wallace can just take the ball out of the basket okay'. A fourth stated: 'This game was scripted like Monday Night Raw'. Meanwhile, another went so far as to say: 'Turned off the game. Literally unwatchable'.

Flopping Accusations Add Fuel to Fire

As has been the case throughout the season, Thunder players were also accused of exaggerating contact to draw personal fouls during Game 5. Before halftime, Jared McCain drew the ire of online supporters when he appeared to elbow Dylan Harper in the throat before flopping to the floor after the Spurs player chased him down and made minimal contact. Gilgeous-Alexander was likewise accused of going to ground too easily after being touched on the back by Julian Champagnie.
