Zarah Sultana has announced she will not pursue legal action against Jeremy Corbyn following a public dispute over the fledgling party they were set to co-lead. The Coventry South MP said she was 'determined to reconcile' and was in talks with the former Labour leader.
In a statement posted on X on Sunday, Sultana wrote: 'For the sake of the party, and as an act of good faith, I will not be pursuing legal proceedings despite the baseless and unsubstantiated allegations against me.' She acknowledged that many people felt 'demoralised' by the row.
The dispute erupted after an email encouraging supporters to sign up to Your Party was disowned by Corbyn as 'unauthorised'. Sultana had instructed defamation lawyers on Friday, claiming she had been 'sidelined' and subjected to a 'sexist boys' club' by Corbyn and fellow independent MPs.
Corbyn had urged people not to use the 'supposed membership portal' and said legal advice was being taken. The party, which has yet to hold a conference or decide on an official name, claims over 750,000 supporters have signed up.
Sultana, who left Labour in July after voting to scrap the two-child benefit cap, said she was engaged in discussions with Corbyn and expressed respect for him. The row marks the latest disagreement between the two MPs over the party's direction.
