Benjamin Sesko has called on Manchester United to make Michael Carrick their permanent manager, praising the interim boss for transforming the team's fortunes and steering them towards Champions League qualification.
Carrick's impressive interim spell
Carrick has taken 29 points from 13 matches in charge, lifting United 11 points clear of sixth-place Brighton with just four games remaining. Monday's 2-1 victory over Brentford, sealed by Sesko's winner, further strengthened his case.
The Slovenian striker, who has scored six of his 10 league goals under Carrick, expressed his admiration: "Of course, he's an amazing coach, I've said this many times. He's brought different energy. The way we're doing in training is unbelievable, and of course, I would like to have him here."
Sesko on Fernandes and Casemiro
Sesko's goal came from Bruno Fernandes's pass, earning the United captain his 19th Premier League assist of the season – one shy of the record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. Sesko backed Fernandes to break it: "He's capable of everything. The way he's playing, the way he's understanding the game is outstanding. I'm really pleased to be part of the team with him."
Casemiro scored United's opener, but the Brazilian will leave when his contract expires in the summer. Sesko said: "He's a working machine. He's experienced, what he puts on the pitch is unbelievable. You'd be stupid not to look at him and try to emulate his work rate. Unfortunately, he's leaving."
United are expected to appoint a long-term successor to Ruben Amorim in the summer, but Carrick's performances have made him a strong contender.
