Conservative commentator Candace Owens has criticised the Trump administration’s investigation into the death of Charlie Kirk, pushing unfounded claims that Israeli involvement is being covered up. Owens, a former Turning Point USA figure, suggested on her podcast that the White House is silent due to the “pro-Israel lobby”.
Owens alleged that President Donald Trump’s national day of remembrance for Kirk proves the government is failing to investigate properly. “It’s never good when the feds are lining up to give you a holiday,” she said, drawing parallels to Martin Luther King Jr. and accusing authorities of a cover-up.
The conspiracy theory, also promoted by Tucker Carlson, claims Kirk was killed because of his wavering support for Israel. Owens claimed Kirk told her he was threatened by the Israeli government and hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, who has rejected the allegations as baseless.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also dismissed the claims, stating: “Charlie Kirk was a great man, and a great man deserves honour, not lies.” Owens has faced accusations of antisemitism, including from Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, after she was suspended from YouTube for sharing an interview with Kanye West about Jewish control of the media.
No evidence has been provided for Owens’s assertions. She was forced to resign from Turning Point in 2019 after comments about Adolf Hitler.
