Ofcom Investigates GB News Over Donald Trump Interview Broadcast
Ofcom Probes GB News for Trump Interview

Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator, has announced an investigation into GB News regarding the broadcast of an interview with former US President Donald Trump. The probe focuses on an episode of The Weekend, presented by Dawn Neesom, which aired at 12pm on November 15, 2025. The programme featured an interview with Mr Trump conducted by GB News presenter Bev Turner.

Regulatory Concerns

An Ofcom spokesperson stated: “We are investigating whether it breached our rules on due impartiality and material misleadingness.” The regulator had previously decided in February not to investigate a separate episode of The Late Show Live, also presented by Turner, which aired at 12am on November 15, 2025, where Mr Trump claimed London had “no-go areas” for police. However, Ofcom will now scrutinise the rebroadcast of the interview 12 hours later during Neesom's programme.

Contextual Factors

Ofcom considers content and contextual factors in each programme when deciding whether to investigate. The decision to probe the repeat broadcast marks a shift from the earlier assessment that the original broadcast did not warrant further action.

GB News Response

GB News expressed surprise and concern over Ofcom's decision. A spokesperson for the broadcaster said: “GB News is surprised and concerned by Ofcom’s delayed decision to investigate in circumstances where it had already published an ‘assessed, not pursued’ finding in relation to the original broadcast of the interview and issued a public statement explaining why the original programme complied with the Broadcasting Code.

“Ofcom’s U-turn over the repeat of the interview with US President Donald Trump follows adverse commentary around its original decision by prominent critics of both Ofcom and GB News. The sequence of events inevitably raises questions around the rationale for reopening the matter at this stage. It also raises serious concerns around regulatory certainty, procedural fairness and the consistency of Ofcom’s processes.

“GB News stands firmly by its journalism and editorial standards.”

The investigation adds to ongoing tensions between Ofcom and GB News, which has faced multiple regulatory challenges over its content. The outcome of this probe could have implications for broadcasting standards and editorial freedom in the UK.
