Maresca reveals Guardiola hasn't spoken since City verdict
Maresca: no Guardiola contact since City verdict

Enzo Maresca has suggested he hasn't spoken to Pep Guardiola since Manchester City were found guilty in a major cheating scandal that has rocked English football. The Blues have been found to have broken more than 100 Premier League rules and spent more than £900m more than they were allowed to over nearly a decade that set up and maintained their incredible successes.

Guardiola's stance and upcoming Etihad visit

Guardiola was in charge when the allegations were first made against the club in 2023, with Maresca as his assistant, and the Catalan furiously defended City for three years. Having said he would go down to League One with the club if they were found guilty, Guardiola is heading to the Etihad for their Champions League game with Paris Saint-Germain next week to back up his public support on social media.

Maresca on their last conversation

Maresca is good friends with Guardiola and knows his predecessor is available to help should he want it. However, the Italian indicated that they haven't spoken since the news of City's guilt broke, with their last conversation being after the Manchester derby.

"The last time was after the Man United game was when I spoke to Pep but I know that he's coming (to the PSG game)," he said. "It's always a pleasure. After 10 years here, he can come any time he wants - not just for a game or training session. I think it will be nice for him and for the fans."

City's next fixtures and support

City will head to Anfield on Sunday braced for a hostile reception, with Liverpool one of the clubs that missed out on the most glory during the period the Blues have been caught cheating. However, next week when Guardiola will attend will mark the first home game for the men's team since the news, and the club have also been defended by PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi.
