The MAGA movement is experiencing a significant internal rupture following a public and acrimonious split between former President Donald Trump and Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a schism that has now ensnared her boyfriend, a pro-Trump journalist.
A Public Declaration Ignites a Feud
The controversy escalated when Brian Glenn, the chief White House correspondent for the pro-Trump outlet Real America's Voice, made a public declaration of support for his girlfriend. On Saturday night, he posted four affectionate photographs of the couple alongside the caption: 'I love this woman. I love this country. God bless America.'
This seemingly innocuous post was enough to provoke far-right commentator Lauren Loomer, a staunch Trump loyalist, who immediately called for retribution. She declared online: 'Nobody cares, simp! Trump should revoke your White House press pass!'
This attack comes in the wake of a dramatic political divorce. For months, Greene had been criticising Trump on various issues, including foreign policy and the Jeffrey Epstein case. The tension culminated on Friday when Trump launched an extraordinary social media tirade, branding Greene a 'traitor', a 'wacky', 'ranting lunatic', and a 'disgrace' to the Republican Party. He formally withdrew his endorsement of the Georgia congresswoman.
Scorched Earth and Social Media Sparring
Greene responded forcefully during a 20-minute interview on CNN on Sunday morning, launching a scorched-earth critique of the former president. In the ensuing MAGA meltdown, figures like Loomer appear to be targeting anyone showing even vague support for Greene, including her partner, Brian Glenn.
Glenn did not take the attack lying down. He fired back at Loomer by replying 'Shut up b***h' with a laughing emoji, a clear reference to her earlier comments telling Greene to be quiet. The feud continued with Loomer making a derogatory remark about Glenn's personal life, alluding to the circumstances of his relationship with Greene beginning in 2022.
The Daily Mail reported that Greene and Glenn were seen together in 2022 while they were both still married to other people. Glenn left his then-wife, Kerry, just three days after Greene's then-husband, Perry, filed for divorce in September 2022. While Glenn initially insisted they were not an item, the couple were openly dating by early 2023.
Glenn's History in the Trump White House
Beyond his relationship with Greene, Brian Glenn is known for his role as a pro-Trump journalist who was added to the White House press pool after Trump's inauguration. He has described himself as a huge Trump fan, writing last year: 'We’re witnessing the greatest political movement in US history. All in.'
However, his reporting has sometimes drawn attention for the wrong reasons. In a notorious February meeting, he asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky why he wasn't wearing a suit, a question that contributed to a furious exchange and Zelensky storming out of the White House. Glenn later alluded to the incident when Zelensky returned in August, sarcastically remarking, 'President Zelensky, you look fabulous in that suit.'
In another memorable moment, Glenn asked Trump a softball question about his 'perfect health', inquiring, 'How do you stay so healthy? How do you stay so energized?' a line that continues to be mocked. Trump himself has even poked fun at Glenn's relationship, notably at a July event where he asked Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, 'Do you think it’s easy being with Marjorie?' while introducing Glenn as her 'very lucky' boyfriend.
The fallout from this cataclysmic break-up within the MAGA world continues to unfold, highlighting the fierce loyalties and volatile alliances that define the movement.
