Lee Anderson has issued a six-word rebuke to the House of Lords, saying Reform UK is being "kept out of the democratic process" by not having any members in the upper chamber. The Ashfield MP made the comments in a blistering attack on GB News, complaining that the party has been sidelined despite having a "fair chunk" of public support.
Reform UK's lack of representation
The House of Lords is currently made up of 224 Labour members, 245 Conservatives, and several Liberal Democrats, as well as bishops and crossbench peers. Despite having several MPs and securing four million votes at the 2024 General Election, as well as regularly leading the opinion polls, Reform UK has none.
In his attack, Anderson said: "Our support is growing. We've got the largest political party in the country. I think it's only fair that we should have seats in the House of Lords."
'Shunned out' and 'kept quiet'
He added: "We haven't got any Lords sitting in, so we're shunned out. They're trying to keep us quiet. Reform UK isn't allowed in there. And that's just wrong."
Anderson continued: "It's wrong for us as democratically elected members of Parliament. And it's wrong for the millions of people that support us up and down the country that want a voice in the House of Lords."
Care home insult
In a cutting insult, he added: "I would say it's the most expensive care home in Europe at the moment, when you see them doddering about going in and out."
