Jimmy Kimmel has taken aim at Donald Trump after the US president announced the reinstatement of the Presidential Fitness Test in American schools. The late-night host mocked Trump's commitment to fitness, suggesting the president would struggle to pass the assessment himself.
During his monologue, Kimmel quipped that Trump's idea of a fitness test would involve seeing 'how many Wendy's tendies you can fit in your mouth'. He also joked that Trump was so committed to fitness that 'whenever somebody asks about the Epstein files, he sprints out of the room'.
The Presidential Fitness Test, originally launched in the 1950s, measured students' strength, speed and endurance. It was retired under Barack Obama and replaced by a programme focusing on individual progress. Trump, 79, announced its return on Tuesday, declaring the 'next few years will be a golden age of athletics'.
Joined by athletes and officials including Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trump also used the event to rant about transgender rights, telling children that 'men in women's sports' was unacceptable. Hegseth stated that 'the idea that competition is bad is the beginning of decline of a nation'.
Kimmel, whom Trump has recently called for ABC to fire, described the president's remarks as 'very, very normal' and 'totally lucid'. The comedian's broadcast came hours after Trump taught children his 'Macho Man' dance on the White House lawn.
