Jim Furyk is set to return as the United States Ryder Cup captain for the 2027 edition of the biennial competition, which will be held in Ireland. This marks Furyk's second stint as captain, making him the fourth individual to lead the US team on multiple occasions since 1979.
Furyk's Second Chance
Furyk previously captained the US side in 2018 at Le Golf National in France, where the team suffered a heavy defeat to Europe. Despite that result, the decision to reappoint him comes after Tiger Woods, a potential candidate, removed himself from consideration following his recent DUI charge. Woods had also withdrawn from consideration for the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.
Woods' Withdrawal
The 15-time major champion's decision to step aside has opened the door for Furyk, who brings experience and a steady hand to the role. The US team will be looking to reclaim the trophy on Irish soil in 2027.
More details are expected to follow as the Ryder Cup planning progresses.
