Cesc Fabregas has shed light on his career ambitions as Chelsea begin their search for a new manager, admitting his "biggest dream" is to coach a Premier League club. The Blues sacked Liam Rosenior this week after just 23 games in charge, despite him signing a six-year contract in January.
Rosenior's Dismissal
Rosenior, who arrived from Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg, lost seven of his last eight matches, making his position at Stamford Bridge untenable. Following his dismissal, Calum McFarlane will assume interim responsibility until the season's end, with Chelsea still chasing European qualification.
Fabregas Linked with Chelsea
One name repeatedly linked with the Chelsea job in the past six months is former Blues midfielder Fabregas. Rumours have intensified given his success with Como in Serie A, where he has turned the club's fortunes around since taking over as permanent manager in 2024.
With Como currently fifth in Serie A and potentially securing Champions League football next season, Fabregas's promising start has turned heads across Europe. He admitted when taking on his first coaching role at Como that he sees the Premier League as the pinnacle of his ambitions.
"The Premier League is the objective; it is the biggest dream a coach can have. But let's keep improving. Have I got it in me? Time will tell. I believe so much in my methodology and every day you learn so much. Expectations are there but it is what you do and how you manage those expectations."
He added: "I want to enjoy the ride, enjoy the moment. There are stages to everything, and I'm still in the early stages where I'm learning so much. One hundred per cent we will give it our all to be the best we can be. I realise that I am very young but I know what I want to do."
Fabregas's Commitment to Como
Despite the links, Fabregas recently reiterated his commitment to Como. The 38-year-old admitted a departure this summer appears unlikely, given his contract ends in July 2028 and he still has much to achieve in Italy. He said: "I am very committed to this project. You never know but right now I think it's very unlikely I'll leave Como."
Last year, he considered other clubs but decided to stay. "I'm very happy with what we've been able to achieve. This is an important project. I need to feel good here. It's important that my family is happy, and if they're happy in Como, I'll stay."
On a potential future role managing the Italian national side, Fabregas added: "Maybe someday. Right now, I'm too much of a coach and I need to be on the pitch every day. Being the national team coach right now might be boring, too much free time. In the future, when I'm older, you never know."
