Ed Miliband faced a humiliating moment on GB News after a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington DC. The UK Foreign Secretary, appointed by Prime Minister Andy Burnham, was confronted with his previous criticisms of President Donald Trump, whom he had called a “racist” and “misogynist”.
Dodging the Question
As Miliband shook hands with Rubio, a journalist asked: “Mr Miliband, do you still think the president is an idiot, a racist and a misogynist?” but he avoided answering. Later, in a one-on-one interview, he was asked if his past remarks had hindered relations with the Trump administration. He replied: “No, and in fact they didn’t come up today.”
Rubio's Message
Rubio took to social media after the meeting, stating: “In my meeting with UK Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband, we discussed the need for Europe to take a greater role in its own security. We also reaffirmed our shared commitment to open transit in the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon.”
GB News anchor Will Kingston highlighted the contrast, noting that Miliband's favourite topics like Net Zero were absent from Rubio's summary. Kingston said: “The headline from Washington was simple: Europe must take a greater role in its own security. In other words, you’re on your own, lads.”
