Conan O'Brien to Host Oscars Third Year in Row

Conan O'Brien has been confirmed as the host of the 2027 Oscars, marking his third consecutive year as master of ceremonies for the Academy Awards. The 63-year-old comedian and former talk show host first took the reins in 2025 and returned this March for the 98th ceremony.

Ceremony Details

The 99th Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 14, 2027, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The event will be televised live on ABC and streamed live on Hulu. Notably, this will be the penultimate ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre; in 2029, the Oscars are scheduled to move to the Peacock Theatre in downtown Los Angeles and will be broadcast exclusively on YouTube.

Production Team Returns

Joining O'Brien once again are live television event producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, along with producers Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney. The Academy expressed enthusiasm for the returning team in a statement from CEO Bill Kramer and President Lynette Howell Taylor: "We are thrilled to be working again with Conan, Raj, Katy, Jeff and Mike for the 99th Oscars. They are an incredible team and have produced such captivating, entertaining and heartfelt shows over the last two years."

Kapoor and Mullan added: "Getting to reunite with Conan O'Brien for a third year at the Oscars is really special. He brings that signature humor everyone loves, along with a real warmth and generosity that carry through the entire show."

O'Brien's Controversial Humor

During the 2026 ceremony, O'Brien did not shy away from controversy. In his opening monologue, he joked about the lack of British nominees, referencing the arrest of Prince Andrew. The joke came weeks after Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, with investigators probing whether he shared sensitive government information with Jeffrey Epstein.

The Independent's Adam White praised O'Brien's first hosting stint, noting his focus on silliness and self-deprecation. O'Brien quipped on the red carpet: "A Complete Unknown, A Real Pain, Nosferatu -- these are just some of the names I was called on the red carpet."

With O'Brien at the helm, the Oscars continue to blend humor and heart, promising another memorable night for cinema lovers worldwide.
