A Chinese-Canadian professor dubbed “China’s Nostradamus” has gone viral again after warning the US could be heading for chaos, and even a form of civil war by 2027.
Jiang Xueqin, an educator and geopolitical commentator best known for his Predictive History YouTube channel, has built an online following by making big forecasts. Supporters say he correctly predicted US President Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory and a subsequent military conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran.
Chain reaction from Iran conflict
More recently, Jiang has claimed the next stage is far darker. Speaking on the Jack Neel Podcast back in April, Jiang laid out what he believes is a chain reaction starting with the escalating war in Iran, spiralling into economic meltdown, domestic crackdowns and widespread unrest.
Jiang told host Jack Neel: “All the ingredients for civil war should already be in place. Nationwide discontent and riots and protests and insurgencies.”
“The global economy should have collapsed by 2027.” At the centre of his forecast is what he calls an “Iran trap”.
Ground invasion and military draft
He argued the US won’t be able to end the conflict quickly, claiming Iran’s mountainous terrain and large population would force America into a full-scale ground invasion, and a grinding war of attrition. In his view, that means years of fighting, potentially a decade or more, ending in an American defeat.
To keep the war going, Jiang predicted Washington would be forced to bring back a mandatory military draft. He said: “By 2027, you should have the framework for national draft already in place.”
“It is possible they’ve already passed legislation to create the national draft, or it’s possible that certain people have already been drafted. I think by 2027, ICE will be much more powerful than people imagine.”
“I think they want to deploy National Guard to all major cities in America because they’re preparing for economic collapse, preparing for financial collapse, preparing for the national draft. They will need law enforcement and National Guard in all the major cities, especially in Democratic cities like Los Angeles and Boston and Chicago, where they expect the resistance to be the greatest.”
Balkanisation and Strait of Hormuz
By 2027, Jiang also said, the US could be “balkanising”; fracturing into smaller factions, not through two formal armies fighting a traditional civil war, but via localised insurgencies, political violence and rolling unrest alongside a global economic collapse.
Jiang also points to the Strait of Hormuz, as he predicted: “And you also have basically global economic collapse because the Iranians have closed the Strait of Hormuz.”
“And so fertiliser and oil, LNG, are not able to be transported around the world. So the Middle East provides about 20% of the world’s oil supply and is also high quality that the rest of the world can’t actually replicate.”
“So these are all very pressing issues right now, right?” Looking further ahead, he’s suggested Trump could attempt to secure an unprecedented third term - and that the country could morph into what he calls a “Christian AI theocracy” centred around Austin, Texas.
