Chelsea Handler has voiced strong criticism of modern dating culture, declaring that 'something's wrong' with men while lamenting the challenges of finding romance today. The 51-year-old comedian opened up about her personal dating experiences and observations during an appearance on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast.
Handler's Critique of Dating Apps
Handler condemned dating apps for diminishing romance and commitment, particularly in heterosexual relationships. 'It's very hard in today's world to meet straight guys that have their s*** together,' she complained. 'Something's wrong. I don't know what's wrong.' The television host, who has previously dated 50 Cent, André Balazs, and Jo Koy, explained that she noticed these negative trends while trying to set up her friends.
'I was initially trying to help straight women meet straight men,' she said. 'But I think with dating apps and social media, there's just so much abundance and so much choice that nobody really feels like they have to ... lock it in.' Handler added that dating apps are more suited to casual relationships than commitment.
Impact on Men and Women
Handler criticized the ease with which men can swipe through potential partners. 'They can swipe through 50 women a day. So they're not making the effort that people used to make to date.' She noted that the single women she knows possess impressive qualities but face consistent disappointment. 'I meet all these amazing, incredible women that are like bada**. They have their own lives. They have their big jobs and they're all just like, "There's no men out there."'
Handler's Own Romantic Life
As for her own relationship status, Handler said she is content with casual dating and is not currently in a committed relationship. 'I wouldn't say I'm in a relationship. I would say I'm dabbling in different areas of my life. I don't like to be tethered to one person.'
Handler was previously in a high-profile relationship with fellow comedian Jo Koy, which ended in 2022 after nearly a year. At the time, she credited him with restoring her 'faith in men, in love, and in being 100 percent who I am.' However, she later reflected on the breakup, saying, 'Towards the end of the relationship, it just became clear that this was not my person.' She has also been romantically linked to 50 Cent and André Balazs.
