In a fiery post-match interview, West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen expressed his frustration over a penalty decision that went against his team. Speaking just 12 hours after the match, Bowen questioned the consistency of officiating, stating: "If you look at something for five minutes, you'll find something to give. Are you gonna look at those every single time and give a penalty when there's grappling the other way? Because that's the only way to do it."
Bowen further argued that goalkeepers must accept physical contact when coming for the ball: "I get that you can't just wipe the goalkeeper out, but the keeper is coming to try and grab the ball. He's got to expect contact." He also referenced a similar incident from the previous week against Brentford, where a teammate, Tomas Soucek, was pulled down in the box during a corner and no penalty was awarded. The remarks highlight growing concerns among players and fans about the interpretation of rules regarding contact in the penalty area.
