Pam Bondi, a former Florida Attorney General and close ally of Donald Trump, is embroiled in controversy following allegations that she improperly lobbied the US Justice Department on behalf of a pharmaceutical company.
Bondi, who served on a federal drug enforcement advisory board, is accused of violating ethics rules by advocating for the firm while holding a government position. The complaint, filed by the watchdog group Campaign for Accountability, claims she used her role to influence policy in favour of undisclosed corporate interests.
Ethics Violations Alleged
The complaint centres on Bondi’s reported efforts to lobby senior Justice Department officials, including then-Attorney General William Barr, regarding drug enforcement policies that could benefit a specific pharmaceutical company. Critics argue this represents a clear conflict of interest, given her position on the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) board.
Political Connections Under Fire
Bondi, a prominent Republican figure, has long been scrutinised for her ties to Trump and her involvement in controversial political decisions. Her alleged lobbying activities have reignited debates over the revolving door between government and corporate lobbying.
The DEA has yet to comment on the allegations, but legal experts suggest the complaint could trigger an investigation into potential ethics breaches.
