A newly declassified video released by the US Department of Defense shows the moment an F-16 fighter jet shot down an unidentified flying object (UFO) over Lake Huron, Michigan, on February 12, 2023. The black-and-white footage, previously unseen by the public, captures the octagon-shaped object with a string attached being struck twice and obliterated, sending debris across the sky.
The release is part of a batch of around 160 files that include footage of 'unidentified anomalous phenomena,' though experts say it does not provide proof of alien life. A statement accompanying the files noted that the cases remain unresolved, with the government unable to definitively determine the nature of the observed phenomena.
In 2024, Canadian authorities reported that wreckage was recovered from Lake Huron after the object was destroyed. An official told CTV News that the debris was analysed and determined not to be of national security concern.
Other clips in the release include a US Coast Guard infrared sensor video from April 2024 showing a mysterious object over the south-eastern United States, and a clip titled 'Syrian UAP instant acceleration' recorded in 2021 but uploaded to a classified network in 2024. The Pentagon admitted that most of these incidents remain unexplained.
Former President Donald Trump, who directed the release of the files, stated on Truth Social that it was his honour to provide government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena, and UFOs in an effort for complete transparency.
