In a letter to the Guardian, Joe Cocker of Leominster, Herefordshire, has called for the United Nations to be relocated, preferably to Switzerland, to escape what he describes as Donald Trump's grasp. This follows Nesrine Malik's article questioning the effectiveness of the current UN, which Cocker references as "War, power games and impunity. I watched the farce that is the UN general assembly: what a tragedy, what a mess, 1 October."
Visa Blocking and Relocation
Cocker expresses surprise at the lack of outcry over Trump's blocking of visas for Palestinians and Sudanese (or any other accredited members) to attend the UN in New York. He argues that despite the cost and upheaval, it is time to call Trump's bluff and move the UN, ideally to Switzerland.
Other Reader Letters
Pete Rosser of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, writes of his excitement at discovering in an Erasure interview (2 October) that Andy Bell's partner is Stephen Moss. He wonders which of the fabled Guardian doppelganger journalists it could be, or if there might be a third Stephen Moss.
David Gordon of Ely, Cambridgeshire, suggests that those anxious to see off overstaying guests (Letters, 2 October) might buy mugs from the Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon, featuring the apt quotation: "You have been sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say ... In the name of God, go!"
Bruce Moore of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, notes a cafe in East Marton, North Yorkshire, with a sign reading: "All of our customers give us pleasure – some by arriving, others by departing."
Prof Gareth Williams of Rockhampton, Gloucestershire, responds to "pre-book in advance" (Letters, 1 October) by suggesting "hair cut while you wait" as another obvious phrase.
Hannah Hyam of Batheaston, Somerset, writes that "pre-ordered" is tautological, but "pre-loved" is ridiculous, asking what is wrong with "secondhand."
