Wendy Williams has launched a scathing attack on Megyn Kelly, accusing the NBC host of lying about her ignorance of blackface history. During her show on Wednesday, Williams claimed Kelly was being dishonest when she said she did not know the racist connotations of blackface.
Williams was joined by Reverend Al Sharpton, who described Kelly's remarks as 'very wrong and very insensitive.' Sharpton emphasized that blackface was historically used to denigrate and spread hate, and cannot be excused as a Halloween costume or stereotype.
Williams also criticised the decision to feature a black audience applauding Kelly's apology, sarcastically suggesting they received Gold Bond lotion as a reward. She insisted that an educated woman like Kelly must have known the history, calling her defence a lie.
Other NBC colleagues, including Al Roker and Craig Melvin, condemned Kelly's comments. Roker said she owed a bigger apology to people of colour, while Melvin described her statement as 'indefensible.' Jacob Soboroff called it 'vile,' and Amber Ruffin mocked the all-white panel discussing racism.
