Jack Thorne, the creator of the hit Netflix series Adolescence, has called on the government to do more to tackle the so-called 'manosphere'. Speaking at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards on Wednesday, Thorne praised Louis Theroux's documentary Inside The Manosphere for reigniting important conversations.
Thorne described the documentary as 'brilliant' but argued that the government is not 'leaning into some of the complicated ways they might solve the problem'. He stressed that while the issue is complex, more could be done to address it.
Adolescence, released in 2025, explores themes of toxic masculinity, misogyny, and incel culture. Theroux's documentary examined the manosphere, an online ecosystem that repackages misogyny and anti-feminism as self-improvement and hustle culture.
