A warrant has been issued for a woman accused of abandoning her dog at Las Vegas airport after she failed to appear in court. Germiran Denae-Nicole Bryson, 26, missed her arraignment on three misdemeanour charges, leading to a bench warrant for her arrest.
The goldendoodle puppy was left tied to a metal baggage sizer at a JetBlue counter on 2 February after Bryson was told she needed to fill out an online form to bring him aboard. Despite being refused a boarding pass, she attempted to proceed to the gate before being stopped by officers.
Bryson’s brother, Gerrayl, told local media that his sister suffers from a disability sustained during military service, which affected her judgment at the airport. He said the dog was her ‘very best friend’ and that her actions were a sign of her deteriorating condition.
Animal Protective Services took temporary custody of the dog, but Bryson never reclaimed him. The puppy, nicknamed ‘Jet Blue’, has since been adopted by police officer Skeeter Black and his family, who said he would be ‘very much loved’.
The incident follows a similar case at Pittsburgh International Airport, where a man was arrested for abandoning a Labrador puppy after being told he could not fly with the pet.
