Federal MP Bob Katter joined the march in Townsville, while One Nation senators Pauline Hanson and Malcolm Roberts attended the rally in Canberra. The demonstrations were largely peaceful in most locations, though tensions ran high in Melbourne's city centre.
Meanwhile, Sydney's marathon made its debut as a world major marathon, with 35,000 registered runners and several race records broken. The event was hailed as the largest in Australian history, placing the Sydney marathon alongside prestigious races such as those in Boston, London, and New York.
In other news, a man and a woman were stabbed in their Sydney home by two masked men in a case police believe was mistaken identity. Three children under 10 were present but unharmed. The victims are in stable condition in hospital.
