The UK Foreign Office has issued a travel advisory urging British nationals to avoid all but essential travel to Bahrain and Kuwait, as the region remains unpredictable amid escalating US-Iran tensions.
British nationals currently in the Middle East are warned to brace for flight cancellations, travel disruption and frequent airspace closures due to the "unforeseen escalation" between Washington and Tehran, according to the Mirror.
FCDO updated guidance
The FCDO issued the updated guidance this morning, urging UK nationals currently in the Middle East to brace themselves for flight cancellations, travel disruption and frequent airspace closures.
A statement read: "The US and Iran announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 17 June in relation to the conflict in the Middle East, however the situation in the Middle East remains unpredictable.
"Since 8 July there have been strikes and retaliatory attacks by Iran in a number of locations across the region, including Bahrain, against US military and civilian infrastructure. There is a risk of more attacks and unforeseen escalation in the region.
"On 20 July, the US Embassy Manama issued an advisory that Iran may seek to target unspecified locations in central Manama."
Advice for Kuwait
Those in Kuwait have received comparable advice. Both countries have been caught up in the escalating friction between the US and Iran over recent months.
Bahrain has repeatedly been targeted by Iranian missile strikes due to the presence of American military bases on its soil, while Kuwait's airport has come under drone attack on a number of occasions since the conflict broke out.
