In a disturbing turn of events, Queensland police have launched investigations after two bodies were discovered on the Gold Coast within a 24-hour period.
The first grim find occurred when emergency services responded to reports of a body at a Surfers Paradise apartment complex on Tuesday afternoon. Police have confirmed they are treating the death as suspicious.
Just hours later, officers were called to another location in Broadbeach where a second body was found. While the circumstances appear different, authorities haven't ruled out any connection between the two incidents.
Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn stated: "We're treating each case on its own merits, but naturally when two deaths occur in close proximity, we examine all possibilities."
Local residents have expressed their shock at the tragic discoveries. "It's not something you expect in these areas," said one Broadbeach shop owner who wished to remain anonymous. "This is usually such a safe, family-friendly part of the coast."
Police have cordoned off both scenes as forensic teams conduct thorough examinations. Investigators are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, particularly those who may have witnessed suspicious activity in either location between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been formally released, pending notification of next of kin. A police spokesperson confirmed post-mortem examinations would be conducted to determine the exact causes of death.
