Third Victim Dies from Injuries in Rhode Island Ice Rink Shooting
Authorities in Rhode Island have confirmed that a third victim has died following a deadly shooting at a youth hockey game last week. The incident, which occurred at an ice rink, has now claimed the lives of three family members, including a grandfather who succumbed to his injuries.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Gerald Dorgan, who had been in critical condition since the attack, passed away from his wounds, according to Pawtucket police. The shooting took place during a youth hockey game, where the shooter specifically targeted family members. Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien expressed profound sorrow, stating he was heartbroken by the additional loss of life.
"Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim’s family, friends, and all those impacted by this tragic act of violence," Mayor Grebien said in an official statement. The other victims include Gerald Dorgan's daughter, Rhonda Dorgan, and his grandson, Aidan Dorgan, both of whom were killed in the attack.
Shooter Identified and Motive Revealed
Police have identified the shooter as Robert Dorgan, 56, who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene. Authorities noted that Robert Dorgan also went by the names Roberta Esposito and Roberta Dorgano. The shooter's ex-wife was Rhonda Dorgan, and his adult son was Aidan Dorgan, indicating a targeted family attack.
In addition to the fatalities, two other individuals were wounded: Linda Dorgan, Rhonda Dorgan’s mother, and a family friend, Thomas Geruso. Their conditions have not been disclosed, but the community remains on edge as the investigation continues.
Heroic Bystander Intervention
Law enforcement officials have praised several bystanders who intervened during the shooting, helping to quickly stop the attack. At least three bystanders were able to contain the shooter in the middle of the stands as the crowd fled and ran around them, preventing further casualties.
