A 13-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of attempted murder following a stabbing at Kingsbury High School in Brent, northwest London, the Metropolitan Police said. The boy also faces charges for allegedly spraying insect spray into the face of a third child and for possession of a knife on school premises.
The two boys stabbed, aged 12 and 13, were taken to hospital and remain in a stable condition. None of the children involved can be named for legal reasons.
Police were called to the school at around 12.40pm on Tuesday following reports of a stabbing. The suspect was arrested later that afternoon and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court later today.
The case has been investigated by Counter Terrorism Policing London, but it is not being treated as a terrorist incident. Commander Helen Flanagan said: 'These are extremely serious charges against a young boy, and we continue to support the victims and their families, as well as the wider school community following this shocking incident.'
A spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service said: 'Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings. We remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.'
