Stephen Miller, the hardline immigration adviser to Donald Trump, launched a blistering attack on Illinois Governor JB Pritzker during an appearance on Fox News's Hannity on Wednesday evening. Miller accused the Democratic governor of being a “moron” who “hates America” for resisting the Trump administration's immigration enforcement efforts.
When host Sean Hannity raised Pritzker's criticism of the president and legal challenges to federal operations in Chicago, Miller's tone escalated. “He’s a fool and he’s a moron, but also most importantly, Sean, he hates America,” Miller said. “You can’t love your country and then fight President Trump to keep murderers murdering.”
Miller, echoing Trump's rhetoric, claimed that Pritzker “wants to protect the murderers” and asserted that Chicago is “more dangerous than Baghdad” and “more dangerous than Mexico City.” He continued his tirade even as the show's outro music began, only to calm down and thank Hannity as the segment concluded.
Miller's claims about violent crime in Chicago are at odds with available data. The Council of Criminal Justice reported a homicide rate of 7 per 100,000 people in the first six months of 2025, with violent crime falling 21 percent year-on-year. Comparisons to Baghdad are difficult to verify due to limited official crime data in Iraq, which currently carries a State Department “do not travel” advisory over serious security threats.
Miller has a history of using inflammatory comparisons to justify Trump's immigration crackdown, previously claiming Washington, D.C., was “more violent than Baghdad” to support federal law enforcement deployments. His latest outburst underscores the ongoing tension between the Trump administration and Democratic-led states over immigration policy.
