TV presenter Rylan Clark has reiterated his stance on immigration following a segment on ITV's This Morning, where he credited migrant workers with saving his mother's life. Speaking on Wednesday, Clark described how nurses and doctors from other countries cared for his mother, Linda, during her recent hospitalisation.
Clark said: "This country is built on immigration. Legal immigration — a lot of the nurses, the doctors that have saved my mum’s life have come over here from other countries. They’re living a great life, they’re paying into this tax system, they’re helping this country thrive." He contrasted this with the treatment of illegal migrants, questioning the accommodation and services provided to those arriving via small boats.
In a subsequent Instagram post, Clark clarified that one can be "pro immigration and against illegal routes", urging people to avoid binary thinking. He acknowledged his views would upset some, noting the homelessness crisis among UK veterans and the costs associated with illegal immigration.
Clark cancelled work commitments earlier this month when his mother fell ill, praising the emergency team at Princess Alexandra Hospital, particularly a nurse named Tanya. His comments come amid ongoing anti-immigration protests and counter-demonstrations across the UK, including a High Court order to remove migrants from a hotel in Essex following a sexual assault charge.
