A Reform UK councillor in Scotland has been reported to police after stating she was 'born and bred' in the area during an interview about anti-migrant protests.
Falkirk councillor Claire Mackie-Brown made the comment while speaking to STV about demonstrations outside the Cladhan Hotel, which houses asylum seekers. She said: 'There is a true unrest – and it’s scary as a local resident, somebody who was born and bred here.' She immediately appeared to regret the remark, adding: 'I shouldn’t have said that.'
Police Scotland confirmed they have received a complaint and are investigating. In a social media post, Mackie-Brown described the complaint as 'anonymous and malicious,' and denied any wrongdoing. She wrote: 'There is no hate crime, racism or inciting behaviour by me at any time.'
The councillor, who joined Reform UK in March, insisted she was simply speaking up for constituents and will not be silenced.
