Emergency services were called to Manchester Airport on Wednesday, May 27, following an incident that led to the closure of the drop-off and pick-up forecourts at Terminal 2. The incident, which involved a man on the wrong side of fencing on the upper storey, caused significant disruption and traffic congestion.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and a public order offence. He has been taken into custody for questioning. The incident is not being treated as a welfare concern.
During the closure, passengers were advised to use the free drop-off area at Jet Parks 1, with additional buses allocated and marshals on site to direct traffic. Some travellers abandoned cars and taxis to walk to the terminal to make their flights.
Manchester Airport deployed extra staff to manage traffic flow and minimise disruption. The airport expressed gratitude for passengers' understanding and patience. The forecourts have since reopened, but the road network remains busier than usual, and travellers are advised to allow extra time for journeys.
