A nine-year-old girl who was kidnapped from Barcelona and taken to Bolivia survived a nine-month ordeal in the rainforest, authorities have revealed. Nada Itrab, now 21, was abducted by a neighbour, Grover Morales, in August 2013 after her parents agreed to let him take her on a trip to Bolivia.
Nada, the daughter of undocumented Moroccan immigrants, boarded a coach in Barcelona on 27 August 2013 with Morales, a Bolivian man in his mid-30s who had posed as a helpful neighbour. Once in Bolivia, Morales refused to return her passport and kept her captive. Authorities feared the worst, but Nada was eventually found alive in the rainforest.
Despite the trauma, Nada survived and has since become a law student at Barcelona University. She is now speaking publicly about her ordeal to campaign against child trafficking. 'I don't want to just be the girl who got kidnapped,' she said.
The case highlights the dangers of child exploitation and the resilience of survivors. Nada's miraculous survival is a tribute to her strength and the few who helped rescue her.
