The United States has deported 35 British nationals described as 'criminal illegal aliens', including killers, paedophiles and rapists, as part of a crackdown by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The individuals, branded the 'Worst of the Worst', have been returned to the UK under President Donald Trump's immigration policies.
According to DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, 22 of the 35 Britons had already been removed from the US. Their criminal histories include multiple counts of homicide, enticement of a minor, lewd or lascivious acts with a minor, robbery, assault, aggravated assault, weapons offences, and drug trafficking.
The number of British deportees exceeds those sent back to Afghanistan (19) and Iraq (31), and is greater than the combined total for France, Germany and Italy. Three women are among those on the list.
McLaughlin stated: 'If you break the law, you will face the consequences. Criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the US.' She added that under Trump's leadership, DHS has removed more than 700,000 illegal aliens.
The deportations come amid controversy over ICE tactics, with reports of agents impersonating construction workers, delivery drivers, and anti-ICE activists to gain entry to homes. The ACLU's Naureen Shah criticised the approach, saying it invites public distrust. A recent incident in Minneapolis saw a federal officer fatally shoot Renee Good, a mother of three, during an enforcement operation.
