A father who disappeared while on a solitary camping expedition has been found safe and well, following an urgent and emotional appeal from his family for assistance. Phil Hutchison, aged 62, had been unaccounted for since April 2, after embarking on a journey through isolated regions of northern New South Wales with his van and caravan.
Family's Desperate Search Efforts
Phil Hutchison's son, Michael, launched a public campaign on social media to help locate his missing father. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Michael expressed deep concern, stating, 'We've got some really distressing news to share. Our dad is missing. He went camping over the Easter weekend, but nobody has heard from him since. We are concerned for his welfare.'
The family urged residents and travellers in areas including Guy Fawkes River National Park, Ebor, Dalmorton, Nymboida River, Marendo Road, and Chaelundi Road to remain vigilant. They believed Mr Hutchison might be biking on nearby trails, potentially in a remote location with poor mobile phone reception.
Discovery of the Van
Alarm bells rang when Mr Hutchison's van was discovered without the attached caravan, north of Lismore. This raised significant worries, as the possible search area was vast—Guy Fawkes River National Park alone is approximately 300 kilometres away from where the van was found.

On Wednesday afternoon, Michael provided an update on Facebook, simply stating, 'Update: Phil has been located and is uninjured. He has reported to police and is no longer a missing person.' This news brought immense relief to the family and those following the story.
